I made this little dude for my dear friend Cora Dean. (I need to show y’all the gorgeous magical girl plague doctor she sculpted me sometime.) But anyway, she loves the Mothman and so do I.

I’ve got a 36 piece solo show running at Wesselman Nature Center, Evansville IN through July 25! Here’s the event page. It’s full of tons of photos of the new art, but even those photos don’t touch the actual number of pieces I’ve got hanging. It is an immense show.
Come in and check out the nature and sci-fi/fantasy themed art, as well as lots of cool critters and beautiful nature trails and birdwatching!
Would you know it, my phone died while I was setting up. No event photos for me! Fortunately for you all, I went and grabbed a lot of art for myself. So I can at least show you pics of what I bought. If I get permission, I’ll also feature some other pieces of art I admired that I know people took pictures of, so stay tuned for a possible update.
First off, the featured image above is a painting on poster-board by Ryan McCain, who somehow manages to be an amazing artist and a heck of a nice guy as well!! He has a huge body of work and he’s done mural work too…I’m a new huge fan. The second image of a creepy and fascinating guy is by Ryan too:
Below, I also snatched up a gorgeous little wire and bead tree on driftwood by Damon Murray. Next year this sculpture artist will have an even more amazing array of art, which will be hard considering how beautiful all of his trees and other small wire sculptures are. But he’s experimenting with MAGNETS now!! Our fellow artist Megan Black showed me an amazing little spider he made that actually moves and dances because of magnets. It was awesome…
Speaking of Megan Black! Check this out: this year she premiers her new loveable and intricate Voodoo Babiez styles!! Each one of these individual dolls is painstakingly and lovingly crafted with Meghan’s love rather than with bad juujuu, and I GOT ONE. Not only one, a PINK BUNNY ONE. …yeah my excitement pretty much knew no bounds when I took this little lady home…
Lastly, I grabbed an amazing Monster Pin-Up Calender by Christy Jochum!
I also admired everyone else’s stuff including all the amazing vintage paintings and drawings by Lisa Herzog.
It was a fantastic event and a great night all around, I can’t wait to see who will be there next year!
This is most of the linework from Elegy, the only progress shot I think I have of it. I just love the complexity of all the lines in an organic shape like a tree, and these lines here don’t even begin to touch on the millions of actual lines that are really there: in the bark, the outlines and veins on every leaf, and so on. A tree really is a stunning visual overload!
So occasionally I just like to stare at this piece every now and then and lose myself in lines. They’re so much easier to see and appreciate without any shading or color to distract from them.
I figured I’d use the next couple of days to show off the nature-themed art that I’ll be taking to Art in the Wild on April 5th and then to the Earth Day Art Crawl outdoor sale on April 19th! First up are the prints, both digital and traditional, that I’ll be bringing. I have 4×6’s and 5×7’s for $3 each, 8×10’s for $5-$10 each depending on medium, and 11×17’s for $7 each.
And no those prices are not an April Fool’s joke, they are REALLY that low!
You might notice two bird skulls cut out of paper mounted on lids on the far right. These are from an earlier show, there will be new animal skeleton art later this week!
Possibly my most successful photo-manipulation and also one of the simplest concepts I’ve done: a fantasy forest that is unending, no sky but only graceful trees above and below. As with everything else I posted this week, this will be at both Art in the Wild Saturday and the Earth Day Art Crawl on the 19th.

I did this work in 2013 for my “Patchwork Dragon” solo show in November 2013. The show version had pages from my childhood personal diaries collaged around the edges to form a border. After its debut at the show, this piece with the diary page collage was auctioned off by The Literacy Center to raise money to help adults learn to read. I picked this piece especially because of the title “Love Letter” and the diary entries attached to it. It seemed the most perfect piece I had for a literacy auction.
It’s sold now to a generous supporter, but this teaser I did for the Patchwork Dragon Show shows some of the diary collage on the original piece:

This is a digital painting of a lovely tree we used to have in our backyard. The cicadas loved it. Unfortunately it died one year and we had to cut it down. Our neighbors lost a tree as well, I heard it was some sort of worm epidemic that claimed a lot of the trees in our neighborhood. I did an earlier version with much brighter colors but ultimately decided on the more autumn-colored piece.
I did this piece so large that I was able to isolate one of the cicada shells on the tree and make the small print from this post!
